Real men do their Spring Cleaning in December. Realer men know that true cleaning is a letting go: re-evaluating what you need versus what you only needed, what could find a better life elsewhere. Toy Story taught us this much at least.
That’s why I took a load of clothes to the charity shop this morning. However, I don’t think they’ll find Predictably Irrational as saleable. So if any of the below interest you, tweet me and I’ll get them to you.
Predictably Irrational: one of the original behavioural economics books. It might be argued that BE never took off as a planning trend by the theories herein are bang-on correct and deserve a second look.
The Cluetrain Manifesto: the 95 Theses of social media, the original “everything you know is wrong” piece. Appropriately enough, reads like a huge blog post.
Hey Whipple, Squeeze This!: copywriters go misty-eyed over this down-home guide to writing good copy and having good ideas. As relevant today as its always been.
Brand Digital: old (well, two years) but very concrete guide to running a brand online, with nice but old examples. Think of it as a more client friendly Cluetrain.
Its Not How Good You Are…: a nice hit of inspiration. Read once, smile, pass it on.
A Simples Life: probably more important for the fact that it exists than anything else. But it’s funny, kinda.
APG Awards 07: like most Reislings, ‘07 was a good year. If you’re a Planner, learn how to plan. If you’re anyone else, learn how to tell business stories.
Gamestorming: here’s an understudied skill: how to run a good brainstorm. There’s a lot of bullshit out there, but this book is actually borne of testing rather than theory, and it works. If you don’t run brainstorms, it’ll teach you how best to behave in one. People will worship you.
Hit me at @jamescmitchell, get a book, get some learnin’.
